Insect bites and stings

What happens after an insect bite or sting?

An insect bite or sting causes an immediate sensation of pain, followed by an inflammatory reaction of the skin = redness, swelling of the epidermis, sensation of heat.
In temperate zones, bites usually cause only itching. However, they can trigger violent allergic reactions in some people (in this case, it is essential to consult a doctor).
In regions where mosquitoes carry diseases (malaria, chikungunya, yellow fever, etc.), reinforced protection is essential.

Some tips to avoid insect bites:

  • Mosquitoes mainly bite between sunset and sunrise: protect yourself in the evening and at night especially, by wearing long clothing.
  • To sleep, use an intact mosquito net impregnated with an insect repellent specially designed for fabrics.
  • To ensure optimum protection, it is strongly recommended that you spray a repellent onto bare areas of skin.
