Blisters
These very fine bubbles of skin, which are also called phlyctena usually form after repeated rubbing of the skin against a hard surface (shoes, tools, racket handle, etc.). They are composed of a clear liquid trapped under the skin. Although they get better without any problem in most cases, healing can be promoted by certain dressings.
What to do
If the blister has not burst, there is no point in bursting it. Clean and dry it carefully and apply a hydrocolloid dressing to the blister to protect it and prevent it becoming infected. The blister will burst on its own under the hydrocolloid dressing and a gel will then form in contact with the fluid from the blister, making it less painful and promoting healing of the wound.
If the blister has burst, clean, disinfect and apply a hydrocolloid dressing. Whenever the dressing comes into contact with the secretions produced by the blister, these are absorbed and a gel forms, promoting healing.
